Chairman, John Lovatt. The three lucky winners were
Gerald Sumpter
Toni McDonagh
Niamh Reilly.
For Toni and Gerald it will be their
first taste of marathon running. Niamh of course is a veteran of last
year's Dublin 26.2 miler.

Potts Arf charity walk raises £171 !
All
the walkers began at 9am - rain started at 9.20am and never stopped, we
finished at about 12.40pm.
Having
completed the walk on behalf of BRC, absolutely soaked to the skin and very,
very cold, Ken, Helen and myself raised £160
[ latest £171 ] for MS (research).
Monies were dontated
prior to the walk, so on the day we collected about £150....not bad 'cus the
weather certainly put paid to the usual crowds.
Lynda
Well done Lynda, Helen and Ken.

April
Kev
Shuff and Dawn Addison are Leaders in Running Fitness!
On
10th April 2011, Kev and Dawn attended a 1 day course on 'Leadership in Running
Fitness' at the Birchfield Harriers HQ in Birmingham. The course covered
the following ...
The
Barriers that stop people from taking up running and how a leader can make a
difference for them
How to
plan sessions and deliver safe and fun warm-up and cool-down.
Demonstration and supervision of effective stretching
The
different types of activity which can make running varied and enjoyable
Helping
runners to set and achieve smarter goals.
Having two members
officially qualified to this level will be a big asset to the club - not only to
existing members but also those out there who are considering taking up running
with our club for the first time. Well done and thanks to Kev and Dawn for
taking the time out to do the course. We look forward to benefiting
from your experience!
Mow Cop ~ Cloud End Report 27/12/2010
13 brave souls turned out in the
sleet and snow to battle the elements and terrain for the annual Mow Cop Castle
to Cloud Summit run. At least the temperature had climbed to a tropical 1oC
! Chairman John knew the run was going to be it's usual
challenge of snow, ice, sleet, slippery descents and energy sapping climbs but,
by the time he reached the foot of the 1125ft high Cloud at 11.30, he didn't
realise that the pain of the final summit push was minuscule in comparison to
what his daughter was about to experience. By 11.45 both had peaked, John
reached the top of the Cloud and Vicki had given birth to a beautiful baby boy
(Finley). The cosmic forces had combined to time John's summit and the birth of
his first grandson to be within minutes of each other. John received the good
news at the trig point. Biddulph Running Club would like to thank Vicki for all
her efforts in getting John to supply 2 bottles of Wetherspoon's finest bubbly
at the post run get together! Congratulations Vicki and Gaz from BRC.

at Blencathra the total amount sent to the charity is £281.07.

Mow Cop to
Bosley Cloud : Run and Walk: 27th December( ~ 6.5 miles)
All runners
and walkers welcome (club members or not). This is a steady run to help work
off those Christmas calories and round off the year with good cheer. The emphasis is on
running with the group although, depending on numbers, the group can split
into different abilities. Arrangements are made prior to the run to have
transport stationed at Cloud End - unless you are feeling particularly keen and
want to run back to Mow Cop!. Runners meet at the car park by Mow Cop castle
at 10am. The course follows the Mow Cop ridge and loses height along Congleton
Edge eventually dropping on to the old Biddulph Valley railway. After a short
stint on the tracks the path bears right across a few fields eventually
crossing the village of Timbersbrook. Look for Acorn Lane, this is where the
climb to the 1125ft Cloud summit begins. Don't worry - it's not a race! The run
finishes at the trig point on the Cloud -hopefully providing panoramic views
from the Peak District to the Welsh mountains.
The walking group starts at 9am from the old railway tracks where they
cross Newpool Road, Knypersley. The route continues down the old BVR toward
Congleton - eventually leaving the tracks-about 1/4 mile after the Blacky Bank
bridge-to cross the fields to Timbersbrook - now following the route of the
run to Cloud summit. Normally the walking group hit the summit first. If you
don't feel like taking part in the run but do fancy something a bit steadier
please let your running counterparts know - it can be chilly at the top of
Cloud in December and it is much appreciated if the walkers can carry a spare
coat, jersey and a flask of something hot (or brandy!) for the finishing
runners.
